In case you missed it, I’m joining in on the 10×10 challenge co-hosted by Caroline of UnFancy and Lee of Style Bee. For the next two weeks, I’ll be narrowing down my spring capsule wardrobe to style 10 pieces into 10 different outfits for 10 days.
The basic recipe making up my outfit for day two consists of a few hardworking closet staples, a little something fun, and accessories to pull it all together.
When I decided to do the spring 10×10 challenge, I knew I had to include my black and white dotted peplum top. It’s been in every one of my capsules over the last year and is still a favorite. The relaxed shape means I can wear on days when I’m not feeling my best and still look stylish and put together thanks to the fun dots and peplum. I also love a good patterned neutral because you can wear it with just about anything without it feeling too boring or sparse.
Since I wear this blouse to the office so often, I really wanted to take advantage of the challenge to style it differently than I have in the past. For me, this meant layering it with a springy crisp white scarf and adding in touches of cognac with my flats and clutch.
Lately, I’ve been loving black and cognac together, and, even though this bag has me wishing I was hopping on a plane right now, I think it adds such a fresh dose of color. I even used the pink flowers in the print as the inspiration for my #the100dayproject embroidery today. Be sure to head over to my Instagram to see more of that challenge as well!
I’d love to know – are you doing the 10×10 challenge?
If so, leave me a link to your Instagram or blog in the comments below so I can check it out and follow along!
I decided at the last minute to jump in on the 10×10 challenge this spring. For the next two weeks, I’ll be narrowing down my spring capsule wardrobe to style 10 pieces into 10 different outfits for 10 days. If you’re interested in learning more about the 10×10 challenge, visit the Style Bee here.
I’m starting off with a tried and true look that hasn’t made it onto the blog just yet. At some point, I went out on a limb and styled my maroon pants with a rose-colored blouse, and it just worked! I love that the combination of a cardigan, top and pants is so simple, but the color blocking makes the outfit anything but boring.
If anything, this outfit shows how you can work with a limited wardrobe without resorting to just plain neutrals. I do love a good neutral, but there’s no way I would have stuck with a capsule wardrobe for as long as I have if I couldn’t find some ways to bring in colors and patterns.
The capsule wardrobe has also totally turned me into an accessory girl. I used to never give accessories much thought, but restricting the number of items I have in my closet at any given time has definitely made me think more about how I accessorize those pieces. Scarves and jewelry can be the icing on the cake or the bow on the package, whichever way you want to look at it.
In particular, I’m loving my Rocksbox subscription for a constant jewelry refresh without worrying about accumulating too many trendy pieces. This Kendra Scott necklace is one of my absolute favorites. It goes with just about everything and the length is perfect for polishing up an untucked blouse and pants combo.
