While I’m still in love with the capsule wardrobe concept, I chose not to work with a strictly outlined wardrobe this spring and summer. Life just seemed a little too uncertain for me to commit to only wearing pre-selected pieces for three months. Between moving home to Portland and starting a new internship, I didn’t have a clear picture of what I needed in a capsule wardrobe.
Instead, I loosely gathered the items that were either part of my fall or winter capsules, a few pieces I frequently wore during past spring seasons and a handful of new pieces. I didn’t have any rules regarding the number of items and I didn’t restrict myself from accessing the rest of my closet. Although I mostly wore the pieces I initially picked out, having the freedom to grab other items gave me some piece of mind as the weather shifted and I navigated a new office culture. Neutral pieces like this olive anorak and lace top allowed me to play with a bit of style without standing out too much as the new intern.
