Closet Diary 5.23.13

As much as I am not enjoying the rainy, windy weather we’ve been having lately, I do like how it’s forced me to put together spring outfits that aren’t just a dress and cardigan. It hasn’t exactly been easy, but I really liked how this outfit turned out. The red pants are still a little outside my comfort zone but with a chambray top and my wear-with-everything jacket, they’re pretty casual. The light pink oxfords and floral scarf keep it feeling like spring.

I’m going to be up in the Puget Sound with my family for Memorial weekend and I’m super excited. It’s just my happy place up there and I am really looking forward to being able to relax just for a little bit before I come back to finish up spring term!

Let me just start off by saying that this week has been a struggle – with outfit pictures (don’t even get me started on my attempts to take pictures the last two days), with school, with the weather, and with just about everything. The last thing I wanted to wear today was tights and boots and a whole bunch of layers, but it has been so cold and stormy the last couple days that I had no other choice. Now, I’m a born and raised Oregon girl so normally I’m pretty good with the rain. I love falling asleep to the sound of it and there’s something about a blustery, stormy day outside that makes curling up with a good book and a warm cup of tea inside sound so cozy. But right now, all I want is warm weather and spring clothes, especially after all that gorgeous teaser weather we got a few weeks ago. It doesn’t look like we’re going to be getting the return of the sun any time soon so I guess I’m just going to have to buck it up and get back into dressing for the rain.

I love my black maxi skirt – it’s super comfy and just warm enough for chilly spring days. However, I wish I could say it goes with everything. It does not. When I bought it, I thought I would be able to wear it all the time, but so far I’ve only been able to come up with two combinations that really work: this outfit and this one. Part of that could be the fact that my legs are too long for this skirt to start at my waist, which is how I see many maxi skirts styled. I guess I’ll just have to work harder at coming up with other was to wear this one.

On a completely different note, taking my own outfit pictures the last couple weeks has been a struggle! I’m just so out of practice and today it was super windy so my tripod kept blowing over! Yikes!

Also, check out that cute squirrel on the gravestone! He was just hanging out and watching me take my pictures the whole time.
