Although wearing shorts over tights has been a trend for quite a while, it’s still a little out of my comfort zone. For decency’s sake, I layered multiple pairs of black tights to make sure my legs were super-opaque! However, I love any outfit that combines a stripe and floral and I’ve been meaning to try to pull off these summer shorts in the winter for a while now, so this is a winner in my book.
Last weekend, my boyfriend was coaching a gymnastics meet in Eugene so I knew he would be coming to visit me as well. What I didn’t know was that he had gotten off work earlier than I thought Friday night to drive down. I talked to him on the phone for a bit while he was on his way and even teased him a little for not being able to get here sooner. So I was stunned when he just appeared in my room out of nowhere half an hour earlier than he was supposed to (meaning he would have had to make the drive from Portland to Eugene in just over an hour) with a smirky, little grin on his face! At first he told me he had been speeding the whole way, going 100 mph on I5! But then he admitted to leaving earlier without telling me and getting another girl in my hall to let him into our complex in order to surprise me! So sweet! Combine that with the fact that he had just gotten his braces off (poor guy had those suckers for 4 years!) and was looking so handsome, I felt like I was falling head over heels for him all over again!
I’ve had this dress in my closet for over a year and this is officially the first time I’ve worn it. I loved the shape of it and the bow neckline when I bought it but, unfortunately, those were the things that left me confused when it came to styling the dress. I finally decided to just go for it, belting it and layering it under a cardigan. Even though this isn’t my favorite look in the world, it’s given me some hope for styling this dress again in the future.
Since starting college, I’ve found my shopping for clothes has come to a screeching halt (which is a very good thing). Instead, I’ve been experimenting with things like this dress that I’ve never worn and finding new ways to wear old things. This has been a very valuable lesson for me since, as my boyfriend pointed out the other day, I could probably wear something new every day for a year and still not make it through all my clothes (a little bit of an exaggeration, but he makes a good point). Even though I miss trying out new trends and shopping for new favorites, it’s definitely important to be able to work with what you have.
The combination of dead week and our perpetual rainy weather has got me and my wardrobe beat so I thought I’d share an outfit from a couple weeks ago with you. I love this Tucker for Target dress, but I’ve found it can be a little tricky to style for two reasons:
I have limited footwear choices to pair with a navy dress.
This dress is very loose fitting (I bought it on clearance and the self-tie belt that was supposed to come with it was missing, which I didn’t realize until much later) and I also have limited belt choices to pair with a navy dress.
Both of these issues were remedied over the holidays when my parents gave me these grey boots for Christmas and I realized the self-tie belt from a top I had made back in high school matched my dress perfectly! Now this is one of my favorite outfits!
Patches of daffodils have been popping up all over campus and are making me so anxious for beautiful spring weather!
